21/1/2002 - the Musical Institute of Aegio in the Palace of Music Athens
On
21 January the Musical Institute of Aegio participated in a big concert in the
Palace of Music Athens, that was organised by the Federation of Greek
Associations of New York and the sponsor was the Holy Synod of Church
of Greece.
The Musical Institute was presented in the second part of the concert and played
- with the chorus of Pan-Hellenic Association of Chanters "Romanos the
Melodist", the chorus of Metropolis of Athens and the chorus of Association of
Friends of Byzantine Music of Aigialeia - traditional songs under the direction
of distinguished greek-american chorus master Dimitris Fousteris.
It was a unique evening which at the first part, the
National Symphonic Orchestra of ERT has interpreted "the 5th Symphony" of
Bethoven, the introduction of the opera "Don Jovanni" of Mozart as well as
extracts from known musical pieces of Donizetti, Masne, Rossini, Verdi and
Tchaikovsky under the direction of Andreas Pylarinos and soloist the bass
Dimitris Kavrakos and the soprano Helen Fousteris.
Also the classic orchestra of room "Feminarte" has
participated with
soloist, the violinist Yannis Georgiadis and the quartet male ecclesiastical
chorus of
"Saint George of Karytsi", while unique moment of the evening was the
performance of "Maouthaousen" by the Symphonic Orchestra of ERT under the
direction of our composer, Mikis Theodorakis.
The concert that initially had been dedicated to the memory of the
music-teacher and first-chanter of Cathedral of Athens, Spyros Peristeris,
afterwards the tragic events of last September, it was also dedicated in the
memory of the innocent victims of the hellenic community and it was prologued by the
Archbishop of Athens and Greece, Hristodoulos.
